EARLIER WORK
Well, maybe not as early as the image above seems to indicate. After relocating from Chicago to the Boston area, I worked for a number of small and large architectural firms before striking out on my own. I literally got my first job in an architecture office here by opening up the phone book and making cold calls. Fortunately, I started with "A", this led me to the office of Richard Alvord. During those years I worked with these additional firms: TAMS Boston, Douglass Okun in Cambridge and CBT in Boston. A sampling of work from those years is below.
Originally designed as the site for Boston's Planet Hollywood. The five-story structure stands at the corner of Boylston and Fairfield Streets. With CBT Architects, rendering by Jeff Stikeman.
Assisted living facility. 90,000sf pre-fab structure. With CBT, assisted living facilities became one of the specialities I worked on most. With these, I completed nearly 500,000sf of pre-fab (panelized) construction on buildings ranging in size from 55,000sf to 90,000sf.
With CBT, I was fortunate enough to work on Assisted Living projects (some with Alzheimer's Care) in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire.
Presentation sketch for a standard "pre-fab metal building" with a site-built front for offices and entry facilities. My work with Richard frequently involved quick, easily read sketches like this. The hope was an easy, loose communication with our clients.
This project, in Worcester MA was one of the first projects I worked on with Richard Alvord from start to finish. It is the seat of the Lutheran Bishop of New England and serves as the "business center" for the Church.
Interior of Synod House.
